The Hotel Ilio, in Capo S. Andrea, offers kayaking
and free-climbing in a natural paradise.
Ploughing through a crystalline sapphire sea in
a kayak, surrounded by the silence and peace of a magnificent natural
environment, may be the best way to fall in love with the Island
of Elba, discovering its hidden coves and cliffs lapped by the backwash.
Or looking down on it from above, while free-climbing on one of
wide selection of itineraries.
These are just two of the many opportunities that the Hotel Ilio,
in Capo S. Andrea, on the north-western tip of the Island of Elba,
inside the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, offers sea and nature
lovers. This residence, whose name evokes Homeric tales and the
adventures of immortal heroes, has nineteen cosy rooms, each named
after a different Mediterranean scent. Guests looking for close,
respectful contact with nature, will receive a friendly and attentive
welcome from Maurizio Testa. The hotel offers an intense programme
of sports and ecological activities for those looking for a dynamic
but relaxing holiday, with the opportunity to choose between four
different room types, complete services, strictly traditional and
local cuisine and wine list, proximity to the sea, cliffs and beaches
of astounding beauty, and plenty of land and sea sports, with or
without the guidance of qualified experts. This is a great opportunity
to enjoy a holiday with a Marine Guide/Instructor (SOTTOCOSTA/FICT
certified), who will help you to perfect your sailing skills and
guide you through one of the wildest and most unique stretches of
the Tuscan parks.
Immerse yourself in the marvels of the Island of Elba in a kayak,
an ancient type of craft, which is perhaps one of the most eco-friendly
and fascinating ways to develop intimate and personal contact with
this generous yet wild environment. One of your itineraries could
be the route that starts from Fenicia beach, working your way towards
the external point of the jetty that delimits the Marciana Marina
seafront, right up to Capo S. Andrea. Polished pebble beaches and
cliffs are intercepted by little coves with luxuriant plant life
reflected in the crystalline sea. Going even further west, you will
come to a scenario composed of dense vegetation, steep cliffs and
tiny deserted beaches, even during the high season, due to their
inaccessibility, reaching Capo S. Andrea after around four miles.
This is the ideal place to eat or go swimming, before taking up
the paddle again and coasting one of the most beautiful stretches
of the island, right up to the Punta Polveraia lighthouse. On clear
days you can even see Corsica from here. This is an unmissable trip,
enabling you to get to know an uncontaminated stretch of coastline
with wonderful, colourful seabeds for scuba divers, with the added
surprise of the remains of ancient ships from the past, which sank
centuries ago with their valuable cargoes.
The kayaking day trip costs 63 Euros per person (min. 2 people).
